FAQ & common problems
Solutions to the most common problems.
Web services fail or time out#
Check the internet connection, then increase the Connection timeout in Settings → Web services. POWO is sometimes unreachable and the app automatically uses WCVP on ChecklistBank. If a server limits requests (HTTP 429), the app waits and tries again.
Text missing from an export#
Check the Exclude from export flag on the entity, the Do not include when exporting flag on the topic, and the filters on the Export page (subset, family, rank, Species only).
Wrong main image#
Drag the picture you want into first position, or click the star icon on that picture.
An entity has disappeared from the list#
Check whether a filter is active (the funnel icon is highlighted) or there is text in the search box. If not, open the Trash.
Topic text was overwritten#
Open the History tab, choose an earlier version, then Restore.
Moving a project to another computer#
Close the project, copy the whole .biodiv folder, then open it on the other computer with Open project. Projects work on both macOS and Windows. Imported templates and API keys are stored per computer, so import or enter them again on the new computer.
Windows shows "Windows protected your PC"#
Click More info and then Run anyway. The warning appears because the installer is not yet signed with a paid publisher certificate. Make sure the file was downloaded from biodiversitas.id. See Installing on Windows.
"The trial version is limited to …" when adding data#
A trial limit has been reached. Enter a licence code in the dialog that appears, or delete data you do not need. See Trial version & licence.
The licence is on the old computer#
Release the licence on the old computer first (Licence dialog → Release from this computer), then activate the same code on the new computer. If the old computer can no longer be used, contact us.
Can photos from iNaturalist be used in a book that is sold?#
Only photos licensed CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA, with correct attribution. NC-licensed photos cannot be used without the photographer's written permission. See Photo & data licences.
Is my data sent to a server?#
No. Projects are stored on your computer. The app only contacts third-party services when you use their features. Licence activation only sends the code and a device identifier, never project content. See the Privacy policy.
